Studies Suggest CSF Flow Can Be Improved With Chiropractic Care

What is CSF?

Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) is essential for everyday brain function and central nervous system. It carries nutrients and removes metabolic wastes from the nervous system in conjunction with the arterial and venous branches of the circulatory system, which affects your body’s functionality.

Recent studies like the one included in this video show that a chiropractic adjustment can cause a vast increase in cerebrospinal fluid flow. This helps to explain how upper cervical chiropractic can help with some diseases or syndromes that do not respond to any other treatments.

Disorders of CSF flow effect neurotransmitters and proper brain function. After a chiropractic adjustment, the flow can potentially be improved.

An Increase in CSF Flow Can Subside Neurodegenerative Symptoms

Studies suggest that a breakdown in the CSF flow can be detrimental to the nervous system, and may be a driving force in the factors that cause neurodegenerative diseases. Some cases show that dysfunction in the in the upper spine are linked to poor cerebrospinal fluid.

A study done in 2011 by Dr. Scott Rosa reported that misaligned vertebrae in an MS patient were causing blockage of CSF. Her spine was realigned using an Atlas Orthogonal instrument, a tool your chiropractor may use to tap the spine back into place. Because of the patient’s subluxation, there was an impairment in the cerebrospinal fluid flow. After consistent treatments, the patient’s MS symptoms such as vertigo and vomiting began to subside. Other neurodegenerative diseases that may be affected by poor CSF can include:

  • Alzheimer’s
  • Parkinson’s
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Dementia
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
